SCALP MICROPIGMENTATION

What solutions are available for hair loss?

The most common hair loss solutions are over-the-counter treatments. These include pills like finasteride and liquids like minoxidil. The key issue with these is that they needed to be applied daily, making them an ongoing commitment and expense. Hair transplants are also popular but they’re also incredibly expensive surgeries and the results are not guaranteed to make you happy. A low budget alternative is to look into what’s causing your balding and focus on fixing that instead. This might mean quitting smoking, reducing stress or eating healthier. Improving your lifestyle is a great place to start not just for your hair loss but general health. However, sometimes you’re just at the mercy of your genetics and no amount of habit changing can fix that.

SMP is a great treatment for hair loss that can be undertaken by almost anyone who suffers from hair loss. Its low health risks, natural results, versatility and minimal maintenance make it one of the most popular solutions.

Can SMP cause hair loss?

SMP does not cause hair loss itself, as the procedure does not involve any cutting or removal of hair follicles. SMP doesn’t interact with hair follicles at all. Hair tattoos simply replicate the appearance of hair growth, through the thousands of dots. The microneedle used is only injected 2mm deep while hair follicles are located at 4mm. The precise nature of the procedure means that the needle will never reach or interfere with functioning hair follicles.

SMP may be used to conceal hair loss caused by other factors such as male or female pattern baldness, alopecia areata, or scarring alopecia. In these cases, if the underlying condition causing the hair loss continues to progress, more SMP may be required to cover up the additional hair loss. Consult Jackson Cross your hair loss specialist to determine the underlying cause of hair loss before deciding on any hair loss treatments, including SMP. SMP may be a suitable option for some people, but it is not a cure for hair loss and may not be appropriate for everyone.

Can hair grow on a tattooed scalp?

Absolutely! Hair will continue to grow as normal though you should expect a few days break. After your SMP treatment, your body has just been physically damaged by thousands of miniature stabs. Your scalp is essentially a wound and like any wound, it needs time to recover. This period of healing is even shorter than normal tattoos as hair tattoos penetrate less of the skin.

In general, the initial healing process of SMP takes about 3-5 days. During this time, the scalp may feel tender and there may be some redness or minor swelling. Patients are advised to avoid exposure to direct sunlight, excessive sweating, and contact with water or shampoo for at least 4 days after the procedure. As a hair fall treatment, hair tattoos have no lasting impact on your hair growth. After a short recovery time, your hair will continue growing again as usual.
